Wicklund Elementary School

Not often do you get to design a new school for a BRAND new town. ARCHITECHNICA was honored to do so for Mountain House, CA. In addition to designing the school, ARCHITECHNICA assisted the school district with development of the Education Specification and Building Program for all future schools in Mountain House. Wicklund Elementary School was the first school to open in the first neighborhood in Mountain House back in 2005.

The use of brick, stucco, and green metal roofs hearkens back to traditional school architecture, but the modern forms present a forward thinking approach and new beginnings that Mountain House represents.

The school was designed to house 850 children in grades K-8. The educational program centered around group teaching in villages comprised of three classrooms with a shared Resource Room. The Resource Room was the same size as a standard classroom but contained storage for shared resources and equipment and could be used for meetings and small group learning activities.

Project Rooms and Resource Rooms designed for use as teaching spaces could also be used as surge capacity classrooms in the event that community and student growth outpaced the ability to fund and build new schools. If needed with the designed surge capacity, Wicklund Elementary School could handle a student population of 1200 students.
